Good to know

Wherever you pay tax

England, Wales and Northern Ireland share one set of Income Tax bands; Scotland has its own. Your tax code tells us which applies — an S at the start means Scottish rates.

Your tax code matters

It's on your payslip, something like 1257L or S1257L. The numbers × 10 is roughly your tax-free amount for the year.

Compared with your payslip

Tell us what actually lands in your account and we'll show our estimate alongside it — your real number is never overwritten.

Money is serious. We don’t have to be miserable about it.
